What are the drawbacks of using biodiesel?

Finding B100 biodiesel can sometimes be a challenge. Visit biodiesel.org to find your nearest retail facility. Biodiesel freezes at a higher temperature than diesel. In colder climate you may have gelling problems if used in too high a concentration. Biodiesel is usually more expensive than diesel fuel. Possibly higher Nox emissions in older vehicles. Biodiesel is corrosive to butyl or rubber components. Fuel lines are not rubber. Don't get any on your tires or body moldings.

Houston Biodiesel has been hosting biodiesel homebrew workshops for the past 8-years. Now at our new Heights location featuring a comfortable lobby, private coffee/beer bar, and a clean warehouse we are excited to once again offer homebrew workshops. We have a complete hands on curriculum covering everything from oil collection, titration, reactor & wash tank building, caustic chemical mixing, phase separation, and washing and polishing the finished biodiesel.  

Join us for our next workshop for an in depth hands biodiesel education for the beginner/intermediate brewer. We have room for 12 persons.  

Workshop is a basic to intermediate level class. Perfect for the beginner and even better for that individual who’s done his homework yet is unclear on some of the process. We also cover some advanced topics like methanol recovery and ion exchange washing. In addition to an educational and fun workshop we will also feed you. Lunch will be brought to us from City View Catering. We also have a private coffee bar that will be at your disposal. Chris can simultaneously make espresso while talking biodiesel.

So if you’re on the fence whether or not to homebrew this workshop will spell it out clear as day so you can make an educated decision if homebrewing is right for you.
